Johnathan Kuipers
Clinical Social Worker, Therapist
MSW | RCSW
As a Registered Clinical Social Worker, I am dedicated to providing compassionate, holistic, and evidence-based mental health supports. My practice is informed by many different theoretical orientations and intervention frameworks - click here for more information about my approach.
The integrity of my practice is upheld, not only through compliance with regulatory frameworks, but more importantly through my embodiment of the various methods, roadmaps, and guiding principles of psychotherapeutic work. I am a work in progress and I am constantly learning more as I engage in regular continuing professional development. I exemplify my commitment to lifelong learning by continuously developing my skills in areas that are relevant to my practice and are of interest.
With extensive training and experience, I offer a safe, confidential space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, work through challenges, and achieve personal growth.
My services adhere to the ethical guidelines and standards of practice of the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW). I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) with the Alberta and British Columbia Colleges of Social Workers, an RSW with the Ontario College of Social Worker and Social Service Workers, and a member various other professional associations.
In addition to therapeutic counselling, I offer clinical supervision to other health professionals and provide consulting on topics of diversity and inclusion, ethics, critical incident debriefing, and mediation. I also also offer opportunities for professional development and education on topics related to mindfulness, trauma, body work, and emotional regulation.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I reimagined my practice by embracing a fully virtual model and a nomadic lifestyle. My mobile office has allowed me to continue providing safe, confidential, and accessible therapy while travelling throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Today, I have made the beautiful Comox Valley my home while continuing to offer virtual counselling to clients across British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. Although I now have roots in the Comox Valley, I remain inspired by the flexibility of online practice and continue to serve clients wherever they are, ensuring they have access to compassionate and high-quality care.
My time travelling throughout the Pacific Northwest and connecting with diverse communities and landscapes has deepened my commitment to promoting respect, cultural humility, and an appreciation for the sacred histories of the lands I visit. I continue to draw inspiration from the natural world and regularly share land-based reflections and resources that support healing, mindfulness, and connection.
In the interest of transparency and accountability, I have included links to my professional registrations, code of ethics, Psychology Today verification, and a page outlining the values that guide my work and practice.
